Arcsecond positions for milliarsecond VLBI nuclei of extragalactic radio souces. Part 1: 546 sources - Morabito, D. D.
Very long Baseline Interferometry measurements at 2290 MHz on baselines of approximately 10 to the 4th power km between Deep Space Network stations were used to identify sources that are suitable for precision astrometric applications. The use of relatively crude time delay measurements along with fringe frequency measurements to determine the positions of the milliarcsecond nuclei in 546 extragalactic sources with accuracies of generally approximately 1'' is described...

A LANGUAGE FOR CALCULATING THE ORIENTATION OF A SPACECRAFT - KAZAKOVA, P. K.
THE METHOD PRESENTED IS BASED ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE OF ELEMENTARY CONCEPTS DESCRIBING A SPACECRAFT'S ORIENTATION PARAMETERS. THE LANGUAGE IS USED FOR CONSTRUCTING THE ORIENTATION OF THE VENERA AUTOMATIC INTERPLANETARY SPACE STATION AND IS COMPARED WITH MORE CUMBERSOME METHODS.

SHEEP: The Search for the High Energy Extragalactic Population - Nandra, K.
We present the SHEEP survey for serendipitously-detected hard X-ray sources in ASCA GIS images. In a survey area of approx. 40 sq deg, 69 sources were detected in the 5-10 keV band to a limiting flux of approx. 10(exp -13) erg/sq cm/s. The number counts agree with those obtained by the similar BeppoSAX HELLAS survey, and both are in close agreement with ASCA and BeppoSAX 2-10 keV surveys. Spectral analysis of the SHEEP sample reveals that the 2-10 and 5-10 keV surveys do not sample the same popu...

An expert system to perform on-line controller tuning - Litt, Jonathan S
An expert system which tunes a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller on-line for a single-input-single-output multiple-lag process with dead time is described. The expert system examines features of the previous transient responses and their corresponding sets of controller parameters. It determines a new set of controller gains to obtain a more desirable time response. This technique can be used to determine and implement a different set of PID gains for each operating regime and, o...

On blockage corrections for two-dimensional wind tunnel tests using the wall-pressure signature method - Allmaras, S. R
The Wall-Pressure Signature Method for correcting low-speed wind tunnel data to free-air conditions has been revised and improved for two-dimensional tests of bluff bodies. The method uses experimentally measured tunnel wall pressures to approximately reconstruct the flow field about the body with potential sources and sinks. With the use of these sources and sinks, the measured drag and tunnel dynamic pressure are corrected for blockage effects...

Information Infrastructure Technology and Applications (IITA) Program: Annual K-12 Workshop - Hunter, Paul
The purpose of the K-12 workshop is to stimulate a cross pollination of inter-center activity and introduce the regional centers to curing edge K-1 activities. The format of the workshop consists of project presentations, working groups, and working group reports, all contained in a three day period. The agenda is aggressive and demanding. The K-12 Education Project is a multi-center activity managed by the Information Infrastructure Technology and Applications (IITA)/K-12 Project Office at the ...
